Antique Shannon Arch File and Clipboard - $5 (Whitefish)

Antique Shannon Arch File and Clipboard 1 thumbnailAntique Shannon Arch File and Clipboard 2 thumbnailAntique Shannon Arch File and Clipboard 3 thumbnailAntique Shannon Arch File and Clipboard 4 thumbnail
Rustic antique Shannon Arch File filing system wooden clipboard Approx. 9 x 17 inches & 3/8" thick and circa late 1800s.

The Shannon Arch File (the metal portion at top of clipboard) was invented and patented by James Shannon in 1877 for filing letters, bills, and other papers. Shannon Arch files were attached to boards (like this one) or inside flat file drawers. There were originally "keeper" stubs that stuck up from the metal plate and were fastened into the holes on each lower corner that the curved metal prongs would slip into. One is missing on this board and the wood has lots of wear. Metal portion has some grime.
